From the information given in the cartoon above, we can see clearly that two daughters

pretend to look after their mother. On the one hand, the mother is nervous because she does not

know where she should live. On the other hand, the purpose of two daughters is to obtain their

mother’s money in her pockets.

The painter/drawer/cartoonist tries to inform us that we are supposed to take care of

our parents and we do this with no thought of gain for ourselves. Actually, the fact that two

daughters attempt to care for their mother indicates that lots of young people would like to have

their parents’ possessions by doing the same thing. Because some of the adolescents wish to

obtain the fortune easily and rapidly, they often choose the way of relying on their parents. For

example, reports can be easily found in the newspapers and magazines that some young

people deny the responsibility for supporting the old parents when they inherit their money.

How to take care of the old parents has become a hotly debated topic in recent years. As

a young man, we are supposed to make money on our own and what we should bear in mind

is that supporting the old parents is a traditional Chinese virtue. (216 words)

As can be seen from the chart, great changes have taken place in people’s diet in the past

five years. Grain, as the main food of most Chinese, is now playing a less important role. That is

to say, it had a slight decline from 49% in 1986 to 45% in 1990. On the contrary, the

proportion/percentage of some high-energy foods, such as milk and meat, increased 3% and 4%

respectively.

What has caused these changes? It seems to me that there are two reasons. First, with the

development of economy and society, people are better off than before. The price of meat and

milk is much higher than that of grain, so in the old days people could not afford them. Now they

have enough money to buy both meat and milk. Second, people nowadays pay more attention to

the elements of their diet. They look for a well-balanced diet that will be good for their health.

From what has been discussed/analyzed above, we may safely come to a conclusion that

there have been changes in people’s diet in the past five years because of financial and health

reasons, and there will be further changes in the foreseeable future. (204 words)
